Background

Having spent her childhood exploring the rural surrounds of her Suffolk home, jewellery designer Lucy Hutchings developed a fascination with raw materials and the manipulation of them into something beautiful. This passion instinctively drew her to take a course in wood, metal, ceramics and plastics at the University of Brighton. After gaining a first class honours degree her definitive designs began attracting widespread attention.

This early success led to an opening for Lucy at the renowned Erickson Beamon London Studios. With a wealth of experience under her belt Lucy now proudly presents her independent self-titled range of jewellery.

Drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources from the intrinsic beauty of the natural world to the derelict architecture of East London, Lucy's jewellery is all about challenging boundaries and celebrating the subtleties of beauty and contrast.

Lucy's jewellery has been featured in style bibles worldwide including Vogue, Elle and Harpers Bazaar.

Inspiration

For Autumn Winter 2011 Lucy Hutchings presents her "Cicia" collection.

"Cicia" represents and aerial perspective of coral reefs. Daydreaming of a helicopter ride over the Fijian Islands, Lucy replicates shadows in the sea, flashes of colour and reflection of the sun on water.

"Cicia", named after the Fijian Island takes its influence from the sparkling blue waters and the coral gardens within them. Inspired by the reefs shapes and textures Lucy layers blue, green and grey geometric stones, woven with crystal binding to create bold, eye-catching pieces.

Fascinated by the reef's diverse inhabitants Lucy cages stones, layers them with flashes of neon and incorporates gold chain and tassels reminiscent of the bold and bright fins of a lion fish.

As described by Lucy: "I wanted to show the beauty of the reefs silhouettes as seen from above as well as show the intense colour and texture when seen up close."

Using a palette of bright blues and greens contrasting with the muted greys, Lucy then adds SWAROVSKI Bermuda Blue and Red Magma rings to add eye catching flashes of colour.

How does it make you feel?

Brilliantly wild.
