Background

Felicity Brown has designed for Alberta Ferretti, Loewe, Mulberry and, most recently, Lanvin in the few years since graduating from the Royal College of Art.

Felicity was finally encouraged to start her own label with the unerring support of her brother Henry and together they launched in early 2010 at Vauxhall Fashion Scout to a wildly rapturous audience.

Felicity's second collection under her own name was showcased at Fashion East and only served to build upon the fervour now associated with a Felicity Brown creation.

Developing her unique design vocabulary Felicity is exhibiting with NewGen and continuing to establish her place as a new voice in the fashion industry.

Inspiration

Conjuring up a portrait of a lady in colonial Africa, Felicity's soft, romantic
vision is injected with deconstructed tribal influences, while retaining its
artisan approach to modern dressing.

Taking inspiration from Victorian lady explorers in Africa, such as Mary
Kingsley, Felicity imagined how the influences of the tribes' women would infuse into their dresses and create a hybrid of the two opposing cultures.

The stiff rigidity of the neckline and corseted bodice is reworked with fluid laser cut silk jersey tubes that have been hand dyed with a deconstructed tribal pattern. The nude silk tulle of the dress skirt has a ragged edge, giving it an antique and yet contemporary rawness. The contrast and tension between soft femininity and strong cage like structures are another theme that resonates powerfully throughout Felicity's work.

Bridging the collection with simpler details from the showpieces, are separate elemental pieces that emphasise the overall vision. Edwardian puff sleeved cotton tops with hook and eye fastenings sit alongside voluminous silk tulle peasant skirts featuring Felicity's signature layered aesthetic. Raw, mesh sleeved burnt orange silk dresses and slim-line layered pencil skirts complete the collection.
