There's a real buzz going on at YBD this week, we're knee deep in adding new designers and new SS11 creations from existing new designers and what's more it's sunny too!
We've been so busy- we are still a teeny team of people- that we haven't had the luxury of standing back in rapt delight at the sheer brilliance of our young designers.
This morning I did just that and here are just a few of my own favourite pieces for all to share:
The David Longshaw Bulldog Print Silk dress (above): Just the most beautiful rich clotted cream colour oversized dress that drapes and falls with real substance. The lilac bulldog illustration could only be David's: quirky, adorable, utterly arty. A real investment piece.
Kirsty Ward's Tie Necklace with Wire Loops, Bead & Crystal Cluster: A perfect standout signature piece from Kirsty Ward. Big, bold, daring and gloriously alive. This shouts out Summer as only a Kirsty Amy Ward creation could do.
Jena.Theo's Bandolier Waistcoat has got me through many a trans-season trauma. It's the perfect throw on over a T-shirt or dress or vest top to add a layer of warmth or just cool.
My favourite Summer Jacket ever has to be the Cortina Indigo Jacket from Studio Nicholson. Remember the first time you shrugged on your boyfriend's jacket? Remember the way it felt? Alien but oh so good, the way it was cut, the way it draped in that slouchy way? Well here it is, only made just for you. Lightweight, goes with everything. An absolute wardrobe favourite.
I'm going to have to finally succumb to the trend for tiny bags this Summer, firstly because when it gets hot it's horrid to be carrying a crate sized appendage and secondly my physio reckons my neck has had enough! This Azalea Clutch from Nook & Willow with its gorgeous detailing and on trend chain may be just the bag to finally break, or make, me.
For the last *cough* years I have always fallen back on a pair of Gladiator Sandals at some point during the Summer. This year I was determined not to do the same again. And I'm not, not really, not now Atalanta Weller has designed such a wonderful alternative: Zar Zar Gladiator Sandals are at once easy to wear with all of the ease their name implies yet with an unmissable style all of their own. And such a glorious pop of warm coral too.
It's also that time of year when I have to drag myself away from my beloved leather jackets. But you know sometimes the vagaries of an English Spring and Summer can leave one with goosebumps so the perfect transitional piece is called for. I'm thanking the design intellect of Eudon Choi for this gorgeous Hemingway Jacket: there is some leather but mostly lighter weight canvas. And attitude.
I could go on...and doubtless I will over coming weeks but for now all I'd like to say is that our young British designers done good for SS11. There is real joy to be had here. take a look for yourself.
