There are three sources we use to collect and then store your personal information at Young British Designers.
- Creating an Account & Placing an Order
- Guest Checkout including Placing an Order
- Signing up to our Mailing List via Email Opt-In
Lawful processing
We must have a lawful reason to process personal data and we always ensure that this is the case. We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we fairly consider that we need it for another reason that is compatible with the original purpose.

In certain circumstances, we need your personal data to comply with our contractual obligations.
For example, if you order an item from us for home delivery, we’ll collect your address details to deliver your purchase, and pass them to our courier.

1 a.) Creating an Account & Placing an Order
We will ask for the following information when you create an account and place an order with us;
- Name, Home Address, Email Address, Shipping & Credit/Debit Card Billing Address (if different).
- Contact telephone numbers may also be requested so that we may contact you if there is a problem with your order.
You will also be given the opportunity whilst creating your account to opt in to receive marketing communications from us, via email. If you choose not to opt in, you will only receive emails from us regarding your order, including Order Confirmation, Shipping & Returns information.
We may also obtain information about you as a result of authentication or identity checks. In some isolated instances, we may ask for your telephone number or personal identification verification in the form of photographic evidence.
We do not store any details of your debit or credit cards or other financial details other than the billing address.
We also use your personal data (and YBD Cookies) to store items you place in your basket but do not purchase. The item (s) will remain in your basket for 30 days, but will not be reserved or removed from stock and are therefore always subject to stock availability.
Lawful Basis for Processing & Storage
All this information is lawfully necessary to process, fraud check and notify you of acceptance of your order &anp; delivery arrangements, as outlined in Article 6 of the GDPR, under lawful basis (b.) ‘Contract’.
- We will store your data for 36 months. If there is no activity (confirmed orders) through your account after this period of time, we will remove your details.
1 b.) Guest Checkout including Placing an Order
We will ask for the following information when you check-out as a guest when placing an order with us;
- Name, Home Address, Email Address, Shipping & Credit/Debit Card Billing Address (if different).
- Contact telephone numbers may also be requested so that we may contact you if there is a problem with your order.
You will also be given the opportunity when checking out to opt in to receive marketing communications from us, via email. If you chose not to opt in, you will only receive emails from us regarding your order, including – Order Confirmation, Shipping & Returns information.

- We will store your data for 24 months. If you don’t make a repeat order within 24 months or create an account after your first order, we will remove your details.
1 c.) Mailing List Opt-ins (without purchasing)
We will ask for the following information when you sign up to our mailing list via email opt in.
- Name, Email Address, Month of Birth.
Lawful Basis for Processing & Storage
This information is lawfully necessary to process, as outlined in Article 6 of the GDPR, under lawful basis a.) ‘Consent’.
- We will store your data for 12 months. If you do not open an email from us within this time, we will remove your details.
You can opt out at any time – simply select ‘Unsubscribe’ in the footer in any of our emails, and we will remove your details from our database.
2. SAFETY & SECURITY OF YOUR INFORMATION
Our site uses industry standard secure server technology software to ensure your information is protected whenever you place an order or access your account information. This software (known as Secure Socket Layer or SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us to minimise the risk of this being intercepted before it is received by us.
We confirm that any information we collect from you will only be used lawfully and in accordance with United Kingdom Data Protection Legislation (the Data Protection Act 1998) and the new EU General Data Protection Regulation 2018.
The following Payment Methods are available on our site;
We accept online payment in a secure environment by the following methods:
- Credit or Debit Card. We currently accept Mastercard, Discover, Visa, American Express and Solo via the Stripe payment gateway.
- Apple Pay. Please note that you must already have Apple Pay Set up on your device before attempting to make a purchase.
- Paypal Express.
All transactions are shown in GBP (£), HKD, USD ($), and EURO (€)
We do not store any of your payment card details on YoungBritishDesigners.com
A Secure Shopping Guarantee has been established for every payment transaction made on our site. If any unauthorised charges were to appear as a result of shopping with Young British Designers, you must notify your debit or credit card provider in accordance with their reporting rules and procedures.
3. SHARING YOUR PERSONAL DATA
Young British Designers respects the privacy rights of its online visitors and customers and recognises the importance of protecting the information they might provide.
We will not pass on your personal and account information to any other third-party organisation except those of our partners involved in authentication & identity checks and the delivery of any orders you may place with Young British Designers through this site.

Checking your identity
To protect the confidentiality of your information, we will ask you to verify your identity before proceeding with any request you make under this Privacy Notice.
If you have authorise a third party to submit a request on your behalf, we will ask them to provide proof that they have your permission before taking any action.
