We Think
One of the very many things we love about Frankie's Charl Knitwear is the tradition and stories behind each piece that makes them even more special: The name this jumper comes from a whole line Sheringham fisherman, including “Teapot” West who was famously given a silver teapot by a British Airman’s wife, after he saved his life during the First World War. This fishing family had their own Gansey patterns and stitches passed down from mother to daughter through 4 generations. This particular pattern of “Herringbone” and “Rung” stitches would appear to originate from some of the Scotch Fisher Girls’ patterns which was then incorporated into the family design by Ann West in the 1970’s.
Details
WEST. Navy by Charl Knitwear. Drawing inspiration from the Norfolk fishermen’s Gansey jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, West is a unisex Gansey jumper designed to be pulled on, on a windy summer’s day or as a less woollen winter layer. West has fashion back shoulders, a neat crew neck and a boxy silhouette which makes the jumper feel light and airy for all seasons. The sleeves are regular length, generously wide at the arm hole, tapering in to the cuff, like the original Gansey knits, which makes them easy to wear over other pieces, or roll up. The “Herringbone” design has been enlarged and re-positioned just above the rib, and creates a flowing pattern around the base of the jumper. This Gansey is knitted in a certified GOTS organic cotton and merino (15%) blended yarn in Nottinghamshire. It is extremely soft to the touch and can be worn next to the skin or over a T shirt, dress, shirt or blouse. Hand wash only when necessary* in cold or tepid water. Reshape whilst damp. Dry flat. Do not tumble dry. Gently steam (using the steam setting on your iron). *Most knitwear will refresh with a hang outside on a bright and breezy day.
