We Think
An exquisitely designed and created dress made from a previously wasted resource of wedding dress offcuts. Artfully crinkled and patchworked to culminate in a stunning gown.
Details
CRINKLE SILK PATCHWORK SLIP DRESS. Ivory by Phoebe English. This series of CRINKLE garments are made from commercial silk off-cuts that are sourced from a range of UK based bridal design companies. There are currently little to no recycling streams for these fabric scraps in the UK and Phoebe English hopes to offer an alternative life cycle for what they see as precious textile off-cuts. These textiles pieces are sent to Making for Change, who deliver training programmes and employment opportunities for women from marginalised community groups. They assemble these fabrics into patchworked surfaces, each one unique to itself. Once the garment is constructed Phoebe English use a crumpled pleating technique where the fabric is twisted and steamed to create the irregular crinkle effect. This slip dress has a bias cut with skinny straps and fits and flows to shape. Comprises: reclaimed silks, organic cotton thread, reconstructed fabrics. Designed and finished by hand in the Phoebe English London Studio. Phoebe English at www.youngbritishdesigners. Proudly.
