INKY SILK GATHER DRESS. Navy by Phoebe English. A SILK WASTE TO OVER-DYE TO GARMENT PIECE. This series of INKY garments are made from silk textile waste sourced from Think Positive Prints, an international leader in sustainable digital printing. They send their silk colour trials and any misprinted lengths of fabric to the studio for repurposing. Phoebe English then over- dye these silk garments with a natural dyeing technique in order to cover and obscure the prints that cannot be used commercially due to copyright reasons. They overdye the garments using logwood, a pigment from sustainably managed forests, and oak galls, that are responsibly and locally collected. The garment is then dipped in an iron based water, modifying the natural colour of the logwood in order to achieve the deep inky tones. The Inky Gather Dress is a voluminous style featuring a V neckline, a grown on sleeve, a dropped waist leading to a long midi length skirt and gathers throughout adding more movement and flow. Comprises: Reclaimed silks, organic cotton thread, oak gall and logwood natural dye with a reduced waste pattern cut. Designed and made in the Phoebe English studio, London. Phoebe English, a YBD consciously and intelligently sustainable find.
